Welcome to the FEMP Lights online lighting
courses presented by the Office of Federal Energy Management Program.
The course is self-paced allowing students
to study materials on their own pace. You should budget 3 to 5 hours of
independent study time per section over the three sections, to take full
advantage of the information available in this course.
This course has been registered with NCQLP for
6 LEU Credit for Lighting Certified (LC) professionals. Students
are also encouraged to use this course as a first step towards pursuing
Lighting Certification (LC) with NCQLP. See www.ncqlp.org

The
Course Focus
The course focuses on managing lighting
efficiency retrofits for the workplace. It is designed for building or
facility Energy Managers, or anyone who wants to get up-to-speed and
up-to-date on lighting efficiency for the workplace.
FEMP Lights III: Projects is the third and final
course in the three course series, and discusses energy efficient lighting
design strategies for offices, industrial and institutional buildings. It
also addresses project management issues, such as financing options, how
to select lighting retrofit projects, and managing the design,
specification, purchasing, installation, commissioning, and evaluation
process.
Students are given 9 weeks from the start
of the registration period to finish course materials, which consists of
12 lessons and three quizzes. Satisfactory completion of all section
quizzes is necessary for course credit. Course lessons are in PowerPoint

Prerequisites
No course prerequisites, but
we strongly recommend completion of FEMP Lights I: Issues and FEMP Lights
II: Technology before students take this course. FEMP Lights I: Issues
provides excellent information on lighting basics that would help students
who are new to the lighting efficiency field. FEMP Lights II: Technology
gives excellent information on various light sources and their relative
strengths and weaknesses for particular applications.
Access to the Internet and e-mail is necessary in order to take this
course and confidence with computer technology is advised.

Your
Instructors
James R. Benya, FIES, is a nationally
recognized lighting designer, expert on lighting efficiency, and co-author
of numerous lighting handbooks.
Lisa Heschong is an architect, energy
consultant, author and lighting instructor. She has taught the FEMP
lighting workshops for the past eight years.
